a 26-year-old transwoman who was killed by US Marine Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton in 2014 after finding out that she was a transsexual.

The serviceman was supposed to serve six to 12 years in prison at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City, which was later reduced to 10.

Pemberton was then granted absolute pardon by President Rodrigo Duterte ahead of his supposed early release due to the computation of his Good Conduct Time Allowance.

Remiendo was another transwoman who has hacked to death in Pangasinan. Her death was a shock to the transgender community in the province since they are “widely accepted” there, according to United Pangasinan Association LGBTQ+ president Noreen Barber.

DISCRIMINATION AGAINST LBGT STUDENTS IN THE PHILIPPINES

Schools should be safe places for everyone. But in the Philippines, students who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) too often find that their schooling experience is marred by bullying, discrimination, lack of access to LGBT-related information, and in some cases, physical or sexual assault. These abuses can cause deep and lasting harm and curtail students’ right to education, protected under Philippine and international law.

PHILIPPINES' ABUSED HUSBANDS

In a piece written by Manila Doctors Hospital’s Rafael R. Castillo for the Philippine Daily Inquirer in September last year, the medical doctor quotes anti-domestic abuse advocate Emiliano Manahan, also known as Nano, as saying that the incidence of male abuse is on the rise, affecting 12 to 15 out of every 100 couples in the country.

Castillo goes on to write that according to Nano, the problem is that the majority of men, who are victims of domestic abuse, don’t even see themselves as victims. They find it difficult to recognise abuse in their relationship, in contrast to women who have a high “index of awareness” for domestic abuse committed against them or their children.

“Of course, the macho ego also kicks in, preventing the men from admitting abuse. They just keep it to themselves,” Castillo writes.

BATTERED HUSBAND GIVES WIFE SECOND CHANCE ON NEW YEAR'S EVE

He alleged to have been stabbed and frequently mauled by his wife whenever she got angry with him.

And the abuse got too much for Nestor Agas, 56, of Barangay Ambonao, on December 29 that he filed a complaint with the police here against his wife Cecilia after their latest misunderstanding. Nestor alleged that Cecilia stabbed him in the butt on December 29 in a fit of jealousy.

"TAKUSA"

Worse, the problem of male domestic abuse—which may not necessarily be physical, but can also be emotional, sexual or financial—has been trivialized and made the subject of jokes. These poor men are referred to as “under the saya (skirt),” “takusa”—short for “takot sa asawa” (afraid of wife), or suffering from “asthma” because they have to ask permission from their wife (“asma” or ask my wife) for everything they want to do, or every time they want to go out with the boys.

"UNDER DE SAYA"

But the common referrence for this kind of husband is "Under Skirt (Under de Saya) which means, he's under control with his wife. He is control because the wife is always ordering him. The husband could not go anywhere because if he does, even a single step, the wife will shout. The husband has turn into a helper, his true and proper position in the household is gone.

Pity husband, he was abused because he is scared with his wife. What makes him scared by the way? The arms of the wife that looks like a pestle? or the her legs that looks like a hammer? Or could it be because, he cant sleept beside her if he will not take the wife's order?

Throughout the decades, people from the LGBTQIA+ have been discriminated, abused, and sometimes even murdered for their SOGIE. When the SOGIE Equality Bill was proposed, there has been a lot of false information about SOGIE and what the bill is for. This is a result of the immense stigma and lack of education on the topic. We aim to diminish such discrimination and misinformation by helping people understand what SOGIE really is.

This page is not only for those who want to spread proper information, but is also for those who don't really understand what SOGIE is. This is a safe space for everyone who wants to help make this country educated and safe for everyone.
